Norm Architects Emphasizes On Lights In This Penthouse

Here we have a space designed by the talented Danish peeps over at Norm Architects. After having spent the past week researching lighting design this space just seem to stick in my head. Let’s be frank, the light sources makes this place extra spectacular right?

“Light is what defines shape and is the most important element in creating a special atmosphere. The work with light, transparency, translucency and reflections are essentials parts.” -Norm Architects
The idea for this 74 square meter penthouse was to create a relaxing and pure structure. Light sources were brought in to create a cozy feel as well as functioning as decorative elements so that less furniture were needed. The lights are nicely tucked away in niches, this keeps that ‘pure structure’ that was wanted. Not only does it feel minimalistic but it is a great tool to use to add drama and emphasize on focal points, or at least so I think. Simply have a look at that gorgeous fireplace and how the light emphasizes its form.

One important factor and game changer with this lighting design is that the lights are dimmable. This way they can cater different needs, moods and season changes. They are also hooked up to an intelligent Home Control System which allows the owners to have everything lit up before entering the front door. For this couple it might come useful since they split their time between Spain and this penthouse in Denmark. Coming home to a ready lit space surely feels more inviting than a dark and gloomy one!

As I will keep on researching and reading about lighting design I will keep on admiring this space and its lighting scheme.
